Drawing Near To God

Dear Firefighters For Christ,

God wants us to want Him. When we realize that it’s Him that we want, we become free. We are free to identify the longings, loneliness, and emptiness inside of us as our signal that we need to draw near to God and ask Him to fill us with more of Himself.

Draw close to God, and God will draw close to you. James 4:8a

“God, help me to set aside time each day to meet with You alone. Enable me to resist and eliminate all that would keep me from it. I want to know You in every way You can be known. Teach me what I need to learn in order to know You better. I want to know the truth about who You are, because I know that You are near to all who call upon You in truth.” Psalm 145:18

Each day this month you may want to take one of the many names of God and thank Him for being that to you. Read the context of the listed scripture and let the Holy Spirit speak to your heart.

Remember God has literally hundreds of names. Every time you come across another name for God in the Bible, you may want to underline it or jot it in the margin or add it to this list. It will remind you of whom God wants to be to you!
